Obergurgl is located at the end of the Ötz Valley at an altitude of 1930 meters. It has been built up through long skiing tradition and is a secret tip for many skiers. There is no mass tourism in Obergurgl. There are more than 110 km of ski runs and 22 lifts with a capacity of more than 33,000 persons per hour, for a mere 4000 overnight guests in town. The result: no waiting at the lifts, wide open pistes and 100% snow assuredness from November til the end of April.

In 1997 a new 8-seater gondola was opened to link up the ski areas of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl. The 3.6km long ride takes only nine minutes and offers awe-inspiring views of the surrounding glaciers.
